Wool rugs have always been the choice and preference of most as they somehow fall in to the middle bracket price wise. Unlike silk they are not too expensive and unlike cotton or synthetic fibers they are not too cheap either.
Majority of authentic wool rugs in the international market today come mainly from Armenia, Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Lately countries like India, Nepal and Pakistan too have created a noticeable niche in the business of wool rugs; though out of all of these Turkey remains the dominant player in the field of wool rugs; especially in the field of traditional styles and designs.
When we are talking about wool rugs industry we cannot overlook Pakistan. It provides a huge selection of cheap round and square rugs which are made keeping the western tastes and designs in mind. This does not mean in any way that Pakistani traditional designs are any less of classics than the other countries in the wool rugs arena. Most of them carry a flavor of the East hidden in them one way or the other.
Morocco, Spain and Tibet too are fierce competitors in wool rugs market and have an exclusive ranking and space. The motifs specifically associated to the wool rugs from these countries are especially in demand.
