Apple has declared jailbreaking of iPhone 4 to be unethical as it reveals deeper parts of the phone’s iOS kernels which are solely owned by the company. In the jailbreak iPhone process, the jailbreaking software, first of all, builds a customized IPSW firmware for the user’s phone & the iOS version of the user’s choice. The latest iOS verion is the 5.0.1 updated firmware. After this, the user has to restore iTunes to his iPhone by using the new customized IPSW firmware while the phone is in the Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode. Once this bespoke IPSW firmware gets installed on the phone, the jailbreaking process gets completed. It is this modified IPSW firmware that allows the user to enjoy third-party apps that are restricted by the Apple.
One of the major requirements to jailbreak iPhone 4 is to download the appropriate version of RedSnOw software & install it on the user’s Personal Computer (PC). For the latest iOS 5.0.1 version, it is strongly suggested that the user must download the latest version of RedSnOw, i.e., 0.9.9.10b2. This version varies for users of Mac & Windows. The jailbreaking process of iPhone 4 5.0.1 using Mac & Windows varies only at this particular point. While downloading, the user should make sure that he is downloading the RedSnOw software for Mac if he uses Mac on his PC or else, the RedSnOw software for Windows if he uses Windows on his PC.
